Hello energyplay, <<Interest rates heading up while the USDollar>> is perceived to only temporarily bounce up may or may not be good for NEM, but is definitely bad for just about everything else, given that (a) there is no sign of recovery, (b) any recovery is liquidity driven and not sustainable, and (c) any further delay in cleansing of financial market and housing refi bubble will make the future worse.

<<gold carry trade gets more carry with higher interest>>

... I doubt gold carry trade will return anytime soon, given substantial danger of officially driven low interest rate, and genuine danger of exogenous financial and geopolitical events. These dangers were not big blips on the radar screen in the glory days of gold carry.

Going long stocks may or may not work out, but shorting gold shares ... another gamble altogether.
