And, according to survivors, the Israelis did attack the and machine gun both the ship AND its lifeboats repeatedly- -like they wanted no one alive at the end to tell what happened. Why would they have cared if they REALLY believed that was an Egyptian ship? They were at war with Egypt; the ship would be a legitimate military target. Not the lifeboats, though. Attacking THEM was a war crime. However, I will look at and consider whatever info you have. The incident is less than 100% clear (what in the real world isn't?); it COULD have been a mistake. I'd say the weight of evidence says it wasn't, though. The US gov't had an interest in going along with Israel's claim- -don't piss off the Jewish Lobby. Presidents can rise and fall on that. (You doubt that? Bernie Schwartz, CEO of Loral, was Bill Clinton's single largest individual contributor in both his Presidential campaigns. And got away with transferring info of major military importance to China because of it.)
