Funny you mention Garagiola. I know this is a very farfetched and off-topic anecdote but years ago our local book editor was Jonathan Yardley, long since gone on up the ladder of fame with the Washington Post and elsewhere. Well, Jon in fact had a partiality for sports books and one night I dreamed he asked me to review the first volume of a three-volume biography of Joe Garagiola. It was titled, "Joe Garagiola: The Early Years."

I did like Garagiola; he once interviewed the poet Marianne Moore, who loved baseball and who was I think a Yankees fan. Asked her a bunch of questions about poetry.

Back to the original off-topic. I can't remember who it was who said of Marilyn "She was very well-rounded. She married a Protestant, a Catholic, and a Jew in succession and divorced each one with the appropriate amount of tears."
