Brooks Automation Introduces OneFab(TM) AMHS at SEMICON West 2003

Monday July 14, 10:45 am ET

New factory automation solution available for 300mm semiconductor manufacturers.

CHELMSFORD, Mass., July 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brooks Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKS - News), which delivers total automation for semiconductor manufacturing and related industries, today unveiled its new automated material handling system (AMHS) at SEMICON West 2003 in San Francisco. The OneFab(TM) AMHS combines powerful routing and dispatching capabilities that enable semiconductor fabs to achieve high performance automated tool-to-tool delivery of material, resulting in reduced cycle time and more efficient fab layouts. The system features simplified storage designs, including zero footprint Under Track Storage (UTS) and a unique high density storage solution that lowers overall cost of ownership and significantly improves reliability.

Robert J. Therrien, chairman and chief executive officer of Brooks Automation, said, "The OneFab AMHS solution is a radically new approach that we believe has the potential to gain wide acceptance in the factory automation market for both 200mm and 300mm customers. Brooks has the largest number of 200mm users as well as one of the most advanced 300mm production fabs. We have leveraged the learning cycles gained from our experience to develop a new generation AMHS that has greater capability, reliability and lower cost of ownership than previous generation systems, providing a compelling competitive advantage for our customers and for Brooks."

With hardware that is pre-integrated with powerful software from Brooks such as the AMHSworks(TM) material control system, Real-Time Dispatcher (RTD)(TM) and Activity Manager(TM), the OneFab AMHS features the industry's first automated bi-directional transport car, the AeroLoader IV(TM), that provides unmatched flexibility and increased throughput. The new zero footprint UTS and UTS Carousel(TM) replaces traditional stockers, reducing the overall space needed by the automation system while providing a simplified, highly reliable new method of storing production and non-production work-in- process (WIP).
