Monday July 14, 10:48 am ET
CHELMSFORD, Mass., July 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brooks Automation, Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKS - News), which delivers total automation for semiconductor manufacturing and other industries, today announced a Strategic Alliance with Angstron Systems, Inc., a Santa Clara based company developing enabling metal Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) solutions for semiconductor applications. Under the terms of the agreement, Brooks will provide engineering and development support as well as participate in technology exchange in order to assist Angstron with its implementation of the Brooks Gemini Express (GX) cluster tool platform in Angstron's advanced ALD tool, the ATOMOS(TM).
Karl Leeser, VP of Engineering and System Architect, emphasized the advantages of employing the Gemini Express platform, saying, "Angstron is committed to being the leader in metal ALD product technology for advanced copper interconnect and DRAM applications. Our wafer fabrication equipment products marry enabling ALD process with leading edge wafer automation from Brooks."
"With its 200mm/300mm wafer size configurability, its field-proven reliability, and its low cost-of-ownership, the Gemini Express is a perfect match for Angstron's 200mm/300mm ATOMOS(TM) ALD bridge tool. Another selection criterion for Angstron was the Gemini Express system's reliability, which has set industry standards and is already well-established with many semiconductor chip manufacturers." Mr. Leeser added, "Overall, Brooks Automation's focus and commitment to integrated fab solutions, and the depth of their expertise in ultra-clean, high vacuum wafer handling makes Brooks an enabling equipment provider and a highly valuable Strategic Partner for Angstron. Brooks Automation is a welcome asset to Angstron's extended family."
Robert J. Therrien, Chairman and CEO of Brooks Automation, said, "We are pleased that Angstron Systems has elected to outsource their vacuum tool automation system to Brooks, designing Brooks' Gemini Express into its innovative new tool. The modular GX architecture has allowed Brooks to provide an extensible, low-cost system for a number of process applications, enabling our customers such as Angstron to drastically shorten time to market for their new tool designs and better meet the demands of the end user market. We are encouraged that our OEM customers continue to outsource their automation modules and systems to companies like Brooks so that they can remain focused on their core competencies. This cooperative alliance with Angstron Systems offers an opportunity to leverage both companies' strengths to gain mutual success in the marketplace."
