<its a little early....>

How many years......decades.....would you like to wait? Until everybody has forgotten the issue, and moved on to the next crisis? This has become one of the standard excuses: let's withhold judgement....forever.

This isn't even a new excuse for imperialism. It's just recycled self-congratulatory Mythology from the 19th Century. Go back and read how our leaders told us, after the colonial conquest of the Phillipines and Cuba in 1898, that our only interest was to bring civilization, democracy, and freedom to them. It took 80 years in the Phillipines, and then only after American soldiers had mostly left. When the Philipines finally became a democracy, they did it on their own, overthrowing Marcos, the last in a long list of U.S.-supported dictators there. Still waiting in Cuba....and Haiti....and Guatemala....the list is long....
