Outside of the Muslim nations and the U.S., you are right, both (Bin Laden and Bush) are dis-respected. But in the Muslim world, the place where the war is being fought, Bin Laden is in the #1, #2, or #3 spot, in most nations, while Bush isn't even on the list, when people are polled about who they respect. Only in the U.S. and Israel, and to a lesser extent the rest of the AngloSphere, is Bush respected. And this war, far from inducing any respect in the world for the U.S., has just deepened the disgust at us.
The truly frustrating thing is, there is a wide and deep yearning for liberal democracy, throughout the world. The U.S. is the natural global champion for those ideals. But instead, we abandon the Founding Father's ideals, and pursue Empire. And are hated, because of our hypocrisy. |
