the same information was coming from US sources / investigation. Let's see it. complicit is a too strong word for it. Complicit is NOT too strong a word. Admitting what happened could very well have resulted in war against Israel. Johnson did not want that. He saw that things went where he wanted them to. Would the US gov't lie? Did Oswald singlehandedly kill JFK? Did Nixon not cover up the Watergate incident? Did Clinton not have sex with "that woman"? Even the speed of the USS Liberty was an indication of it as it was traveling too close to the "hostile intentions" speed So the Israelis would have been justified in shooting up any water ski boat just because it was doing over 30? I don't think the rules of war allow for that.
