Poll: More People Call U.S. Economy 'Poor'

POSTED: 8:41 a.m. EDT July 16, 2003
WASHINGTON -- Three-fourths of Americans say the economy is "not so good" or "poor" in a new poll.

The number who say it is poor is the highest in a decade.

The poll was done for ABC News and Money Magazine.

In a poll done for the Cook Political Report, people were about evenly divided on President George W. Bush's handling of the economy. But a majority of voters age 50 and over, 53 percent, say they disapprove of how the president is handling the economy.

Bush's overall job approval in that poll is 59 percent.
