These all seem to have been invented by humans to reflect the mores of specific groups of people in particular times and places. It is believed that in that ancient football type game played by the Mayans, the losers of the game had the dishonour of lopping off the heads of the winners who were thus to be honored by their sun God. The shame and ignominy would likely be so great thst they would leave the village and go to the wild places. The winners of the game, of course, went to live with Mr. Sun.
