IMO it's impossible to be too cynical about the market. It was designed to help the big boys (banks, monied aristocracy, "captains" of industry, etc.) leverage their power and capital, and it does a very elegant job of it. Seems that the main purpose of the talking heads, and mainstream media in general, is misdirection - "Hey look over here!" - while the real deals are done behind doors that are far from transparent.
