YOU'RE CHEATING! YOU'RE LOOKING BEHIND THE CURTAIN! :-) Huh? :-) However, in the '70s the gov't started manipulating ("improving") the contents of the basket to get the numbers they wanted. True. However, these days it is rather more blatant. Highlighting a measure ("core inflation") that excludes such a basic cost item as energy is just too much. I mean, manipulated employment figures are public knowledge - anyone who looks into the footnotes can see the "adjustments". However, this time, they are promoting "core" data, very much like dot.coms promoted "pro-forma" earnings. It is pathetic that most of the market is swallowing it whole. Am I getting too cynical? :-) No, you are getting sweet. I could get used to this :-)
