If Muslim clerics are directly defended by U.S. soldiers, then those clerics will be seen as our stooges. Same with funding. We would need to launder the money, maybe through the Malaysian government. And we desperately need to find Muslim soldiers to fight on our side in Iraq. Otherwise, any Iraqi who sides with us, will lose legitimacy (if defended by U.S. soldiers), or be killed (if not defended by anyone).
