I read the article back in April. I fear the window has closed- I discussed the issue with a friend this morning. I hope I'm wrong- but the peace so far has not been well handled, not that it would have been easy to handle it well (darn nigh impossible to do what needed to be done, imo- and I think the author of that article may have been overly optimistic about the Shiites and their degree of enthusiasm for a non-religious state, as well as our ability to separate them from the siren call of Iranian-style hard line Islam). I love your vision of America!! It is akin to my vision. I too believe in the power of non-violence. Non-violence doesn't always work- but then neither does violence (because if it did, we wouldn't have all those Pyrrhic victories in the annals of history). I could go through your post and agree with each subheading, if you like :-)
