<I'm an American. I believe in America's virtue.>

I'm an American, too. And I believe in America's virtue, too.

I believe the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are the finest statements, ever, on how a nation should be governed.

But, when the Republic was founded, our democracy was imperfect. Only white male property owners could vote. The vast majority of the population (blacks, Indians, women, the poor) were excluded. Slavery was allowed in most States. Slowly, painfully, our democracy has been made more perfect. And at every step, for the last 200+ years, the blind flag-waving SeeNoEvil authoritarians have resisted every attempt to make reality closer to the ideals in the Declaration of Independence. Who is being UnAmerican, here? Who is the real patriot?
