RE: "I expect more from you."

1. I don't "stand behind the do nothing course." I believe that the reason for action should be presented accurately and honestly to the UN or the US Congress. I believe that one of the two would support action against the perpetrators of "crimes against humanity" if a convincing case were presented.

2. I don't believe that Bush attacked Iraq because of "crimes against humanity."

3. Your position in support of the US attack in Iraq is "the end justifies the means." That is a defensible position in this situation, but not necessarily a winning argument.

4. Saddam was a brutal murderer on a very large scale. He responded to the UN sanctions in ways which increased the suffering and deaths of his people. I don't believe Saddam ever committed genocide.

5. When the US attacked Iraq, it did not stop ongoing mass murder of Iraqis by Saddam. Most of the murders had occurred years ago. When an immediate response is not necessary, war seems a hard means to defend.

6. I am sorry I disappointed you. We have established in past exchanges that I am far more cynical, far less hopeful, and far less trusting than you. I don't believe that holding current murderers accountable will prevent future murders. I don't think that Saddam was too concerned by the Nuremberg trials.
