Mr Whitman has no objection to traditional growth stocks as long as he can buy them cheaply. At the moment he favours component manufactures such as AVX and Kemet - bought at close to book value while trading at only three to four times peak earnings -and Sun Microsystems, where he calculates cash exceeds liabilities.
