I had gone through both possibilies of whether the Liberty did or did not have communications with the fleet. It wasn't necessary to state a position.

Planes were ordered away from a ship with no communication and that was just under attack? oh boy......

Hello....the aircraft get their orders from the carrier not the Liberty....Hellloooo.

There is historical precedence for your position

There is something about surrendering forces but USS Liberty was not flying white flag.....

You've got that section of the Conventions nailed...there's something about....but a white flag is a requirement....LOL.
