>>WASHINGTON, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) today applauded passage of H.R. 2122, The Project BioShield Act of 2003, by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 421 - 2.

"Unprecedented times call for unprecedented measures," said Blunt. "In the post-9-11 world, we need to do everything possible to ensure Americans are safe from the new threat of bioterrorism."

Project BioShield is a comprehensive effort to develop, manufacture, and stockpile effective drugs and vaccines for use in the event of a biological attack.

Project BioShield will streamline government-sponsored research of biological, chemical, nuclear and radiological weapons and medicines to combat their effects. It will also authorize a special reserve fund to purchase enough of those countermeasures to respond to catastrophic terrorist attacks.

Added Blunt: "When it comes to protecting our borders and the citizens that live within them, party affiliation should be checked at the door. Today an overwhelming bipartisan majority voted to protect Americans from the unthinkable. As a result of this legislation, our country truly is a safer place." <<

Cheers, Tuck
