No, he won't lose any data with a restore. He may lose functionality on any programs he has installed since the restore point that you choose but all he has to do is reinstall them. System Restore creates a restore point before a restore as a safeguard so if your restore is successful you should disable System Restore to get rid of the offending fxxx backup or you will probably end up being reinfected. After destroying all the restore points you can turn System Restore back on.
