No, he won't lose any data with a restore. He may lose functionality on any programs he has installed since the restore point that you choose but all he has to do is reinstall them. System Restore creates a restore point before a restore as a safeguard so if your restore is successful you should disable System Restore to get rid of the offending fxxx backup or you will probably end up being reinfected.
