A two-party system tends to satisfy the tenets of democracy (the voice of the people) to a greater degree than such systems as present say in Israel. Because the lunatic fringes have no chance, but still may carry significant vote-it forces the viable parties to acknowledge the best ideas of one another, as well as other ideas which are gaining in popularity and public appeal--and to compromise and to soften particular extremisms. The FPTP system certainly has drawbacks, as well, but in the main it forces the voting public to trade in extremist thought for a broader recognition of common interests and values.

The long and the short of it is that fringe party idealogues generally hate the system because to them it represents the exclusion of their reactionary ideas; whereas, the main parties are wiling to endure the envitable compromises which maintain a mainstream set of values--being aware that this ensures that change is ushered in on a gradual basis rather than as knee-jerk and reactionary.

I have not heard you express an opinion on the issue. You seem to be happier with oblique asides and sagely pregnant utterances. If I knew your overall opinion on the matter I would have little or no difficulty in inferring many of your top secret values.
