I like the protection of a credit card for online purchases

A credit card does give you good protection with online purchases. But you can't buy from Aldi online. I don't know if you have any Aldi stores in California but Aldi is a foreign owned chain of grocery stores that sells a limited selection of mostly odd ball brands at low prices. Most Aldi customers have low incomes and are very loyal. I thought it was unusual Aldi was selling a laptop computer when most of their customers don't have enough savings to pay for one.

The only place you can buy the laptop Aldi is selling is at an Aldi grocery store.
