' .. the terms "lynching" and "lynch law", which refer to a self-constituted court that sentenced a person without due process of law, are derived from the name of Charles Lynch, a Virginia planter and patriot who, during the American Revolution, conducted a sort of kangaroo court whose purpose was to hang people opposed to Independence.'

Go ahead Neo, call that a 'crock' if you please, but you will see it confirmed elsewhere .... i do suspect one inaccuracy, i think they have the state wrong, though of course Lynch may have been from Virginia and a planter there as well, but if memory serves one of the Carolinas was the scene of most of his thuggery, a town called Montgomery, at or near some lead mines ... and of course the writer of the above lines is sucked in to the rebel propaganda use of 'patriot' and 'independence'
What is not disputed by anyone credible, is that Lynch was a terrorist, slaughtering civilians in a cause furthered by multitudes of his fellow terrorists |
