Nobody made a convincing case -- that much is true -- but every effort was made to make the Iraqi threat appear to be so grave that immediate military action was needed. The forceful use of trumped up "evidence" that Saddam was in hot pursuit of nukes and references to the wide range of horrifying non-conventional WMDs that were absolutely known for a fact to be in Iraq in huge quantities, ready to be given to terrorists and used against the US and Iraqs neighbors, all were used to paint a horrifying picture of immediate danger. Making this case for war was essential in view of the rejection by the Security Council of the American resolution calling for invasion in the name of the UN.
