Just doing BTU figures in my head 6 to 1 seems about right, but that does not take into account refining costs.

Also the therms per unit of gas varies.

So 8 to 1 may be a better yardstick.

On the other hand, you can't drive many vehicles on NG, so oil is more valuable apart from its simple BTU content.

I assume somebody has referenced the big article in the WSJ (front page today) on LNG.
