I cannot imagine how any reader with a functioning synapse could conclude that this was the "underlying assumption" of my post.

Different threats require different responses. The degree and nature of this threat may have been distorted in a way that made a desired response seem more appropriate than it may actually have been. Decisions that have to be taken in the near future will be based on threat assessments on other situations from many of the same people, so the accuracy of recent threat assessments is definitely an issue of significance.

Must I write it in letters of fire?

Don't get me started on the melodramatic hysterics at Stratfor. Waste of bandwidth.
