I already posted more recent material about increased support of terror by Iraq, that implies, although it does not clearly state, that it had taken the lead. One of the articles to which you are responding says that the threat from the East has been mostly eliminated with the neutralization of Iraq, and specifically says that Syria is no big threat under the younger Assad. It is true that it says that the containment of Iran is presumed to the US presence in countries surrounding Iran, but the significance of neutralizing Iraq is stated forcibly. I will see if there is any clearer articulation of the point. If not, at least you can see where I got the idea.
