It's pretty clear what is driving the Bush administration's war in Iraq. Certainly there is an intersection of policy and goals between the Israelis, US and the Brits.
The main driver of the war in Iraq is oil. It's as simple as that. The Brits controlled Iraq and Iran for half a century. This while the US pursued interests in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. About 50 years ago the US took the upper hand in Iran. And later by courting Saddam took interest in Iraq.
The US is now importing half of it's oil from overseas. If there was ever a disruption in the supply of oil it would be devastating to the US economy. Remember the chaos when OPEC turned the screw back in the 70's? The same thing could happen again if one or more entities in the middle east decided on another embargo.
With Iraq's oil output barely sputtering under the weight of UN sanctions, aging oil refining equipment and destroyed oil facilities during several wars, the world oil supply is teetering on becoming non responsive to demand. Witness the spike in the price during the recent unrest in Venezuela.
It's pretty clear that this war in Iraq is not about WMD, Nukes, Terrorists or despot leaders. This war is about one thing, and only one thing. OIL.
If this war was about liberating the Iraqi people and ridding Iraq of Saddam, then why are we not sending troops to Liberia, Congo, Botswana, Rwanda and Somalia? These countries are crying out for justice as power crazed leaders carry on wave after wave of genocide.
The reasons given for the Iraq war...WMD, Nukes, Terror and lately since most of the former have been shown to be unfounded, to end despotisim...are all a smoke screen. The real reason is about oil, money and greed.
Shrubbies will deny this all the way to church on Sunday. But the reason that the US is in Iraq is singular and clear. OIL.
