This is a consistent mistake made by the War Party. Or maybe not a mistake, since it serves a useful propaganda purpose.
Consistently, you see superhuman enemies, automatons who cannot be negotiated with, vast hordes of bogeymen wielding appalling weapons. In this way, you justify unlimited violence against Them, and justify a War Economy and War Budget that beggars our nation.
The Myth that Japan still could, in August 1945, inflict vast destruction on the U.S., is just as absurd as the Cold War Missile Gap Myth, and the Iraqi WMD in 2002 Myth. But I understand, it's a matter of faith, not facts. You couldn't possibly look yourself in the mirror, after all the things you've done to Them, from Wounded Knee to Hiroshima to Baghdad, if you didn't cling tight to your Myth. |
