was the official Washington response? There are official photos of that time, showing Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam, everyone all smiles. He was our ally, and our government (many of the exact same people in power today), were they called for Regime Change? No, there was a deafening silence.

So...if this was a huge mistake, politically and morally, why have you (& all the rest of the Left) been so unforgiving of its correction? What is your your underlying idea, that only Democratic administrations are allowed to correct their policies? Where do you get off slamming the Bush 41 for having supported Saddam, while equally condemning Bush 43 for overthrowing Saddam? While you kept saying "no, no, you must leave him alone, unless you can get France and Russia to agree"

If supporting Saddam's genocidal rule is so unforgiveable, who has been doing it for the last two years?

A very curious sort of mental gymnastics.
