Has the “vast right wing conspiracy” become the “axis of weasels”? Surely, if you careful parse the sentence, the 16 words are technically true. You know, just like if you carefully considered the definition of what is “is”. Sorry guys, neither flies. The American people, while not as politically sophisticated as I would like, after decades of Madison Avenue, are quick enough, when it comes to spotting a deliberate verbal deception. Didn’t work for Clinton, doubt it will for Bush.
The Repubs will say “but Clinton’s deception was under oath”, while the Dems will say “but Bush’s deception was to be able to start a war and get people killed’. I say a President’s behavior will be carefully scrutinized. Hence, there is a significant probability that the deception will be reveled. Then people will make a judgment. If the deception is “country serving”, and fosters rather than impedes constitutional processes, then most would say “no harm done”. If the deception is self-serving (like covering an affair or pushing a pre-existing, profit making agenda) and clearly impedes the constitutional process, people are less forgiving.
