<<<Oddly enough I didn't see thousands and thousands of people protesting Desert Storm- a few- but no where
near the numbers I saw with this war.>>
Since Desert Storm the expansion of the Web and computer use has given individuals a chance to express themselves like never before.
On Forums like SI , and in E-mails.
On political issues, its difficult to find more than 66% agreement, and the anti-crowd is more outspoken and emotional than the more silent pro-crowd, with not so many people writing in to say "Yes, that was a good vote you made on Proposition 135", or "I am sure glad you voted for that war"
Congressmen are being flooded with E-mails, hearing more from dissidents than ever before, and unless they are are quality communications with logical arguments they will be paying less attention to individuals than in the past and will pay more attention to what groups or organizations say.
To sum up, this is a good place to bitch and achieve emotional relief , but If Congress or the Administration paid much attention they would be unable to reach a decision, especially on a whether to have a war or not.
At this moment, lets assume that the 3 d infantry had been attacked by VX as they marched slowly but surely toward Baghdad in a typical ground war and lost 5000 causualties. And later found one long range missile capable of reaching Israel.
Then some would say the war was totally justified per GWB's comments, that we had plenty of reasons to go to war. That the decision was right
But my gosh the terrible casualties, who got us into this mess, what a crummy bunch of Generals, why didn't they dash in and bypass the Republican guard, why didn't we plaster those %^%$#$ with MOABs? Why didn't we attack sooner before they produced the VX .How are we going to get out of this.
