Agree - to be fair, I'd give it another 6 months to see if they can contain costs enough to breakeven on the 3rd or 4th quarter. Then 1998 should be the real test to see how much profit if any this company can generate. I think the holding horizon on this stock is about 18 months.

Despite that, if SFTW turns out to be too small to exploit their DSM product, this company seems like a prime candidate to be acquired, primarily for the DSM technology. After all, Himelstein, former SFTW technology officer, joined SunSoft to lead a systems development group, and at the same time, stayed on as a SFTW director. Would it make sense for Sun Microsystems to acquire the DSM technology and use it themselves? Their other option is to work with Computer Associates and their Unicenter TNG in the same way that HP and Tandem are doing...

The other boost could come when DSM is upgraded to run native on Windows NT (later this year?). This should further open up the low-end market that SFTW is targeting since that is where NT seems to be really gaining ground on the UNIX systems.

I would think $5 per share would be the minimum under an acquisition scenario.....
