<<!n order to have buy in from other countries in the rights area( buy in that I feel is necessary for any degree of global stability) we need to agree to rights and duties- in some forum like the UN. I thought Desert Storm was a nice example of that- and this war is a horrible backwards step.>>>

We probably wont get far discussing rights, but I certainly agree a forum like the UN is needed.
Saddam thought he had a right to Kuwait since it had been part of Iraq at one time.So he took it without asking,
and very few others agreed that he had that right. Same with Hitler, who took back countries that used to be part of Germany. He may have kept some with few complaints ( or resistance) but then he got too greedy.
Now Saddam thought he had a right to torture or kill as many Iraqis as he wished, and to keep most of the oil for food money to build Palaces and buy armaments. Somebody disagreed .
World opinion is changing and those forms of subjugation (rights) assumed by foreign leaders is being seriously examined. Economic pressure is being applied,, and actions being taken in Africa..
Treat the war any way you want, there will be good and bad results.
A good result is that the delegation or recognition of "rights" is going to get reviewed and clarified.
One case will be the right of Israel and Israelies to exist, which seems to be overiding the Palestinian contention they have a right to eliminate the Israelis.
Perhaps we have a right to compensation from France, for twice helping them get their country back.
Do the Japanese interred during ww2 have a right to compensation.
But enough for rights for tonight, as this can go on forever. We would have to zero in on what type of rights to discuss.
