I can't believe that anyone seriously bought the "threat to the US" justification for the Iraq war. I think they did........the polls changed right after Bush's S of the Union and Powell's presentation to the UN. Americans have a tendency to only half listen and they already decided the Bush was a good guy....everyman. SH was always a danger to his own people, he was never a terrorist. And Iraq had been reduced to a backwater republic by the sanctions. We are far more threatened by domestic terrorists than we are by anyone from Iraq (in fact we always have been more threatend from within than from without). Can't agree with you more. Sometimes I think there are more terrorists in Congress than there are on the streets of Bagdad.<g> If you get a chance, pick up the current New Yorker magazine and read the "Letter from Iraq" column. It gives a good historical perspective on Iraq wrt oil, and what's up going forward. I'll check it out. No question oil played an important part but I also think it was ideology and that peculiar strain of paranoia that seems to infect certain Americans. How did you like P. Robertson's praying to God that the the liberal Sup. Court Justices would experience a flare up in their maladies, forcing them to resign? Speaking of terrorists.............. ted
