BTW NSA investigation concluded that at the speed and distance mirages were going it was impossible to identify US flag. By the time boats get to the ship the flag was knocked off by one of the mirages. So it seems that the story about recording of the fighter pilot seeing american colors was cooked up. The fighters were not recorded by NSA, the only recording came from helicopters after attack. And one of them did indicate an american colors but that was already after the fact
