Very simple. A lefty liberal cannot win the presidency. The country is now about 40% conservative, 30% moderate and 30% liberal. More or less. Too liberal a candidate can give moderates who decide the election an excuse to vote Bush. And no matter how poorly Bush performs, he still has 200 million (projected) to buy clever attack ads. They key for Dems is to nominate the candidate who is the most difficult to attack. I say Kerry with Graham as his Veep. Kerry cannot be attacked like Dukakis cold because he is a bone fide war hero and makes Bush look like a military midget. Dean makes Bush look like a military giant.
