(1) This is not a game -- the threat we made is real. The threat we face is real. Our national security is at stake. (2) The only country of much value in the talks would be China, and they show precious little interest in being involved -- and who can blame them. They want no part of our mess. They are concerned with North Korea for entirely different reasons. The axis of evil speech alienated us from the other countries in the region. It was stupid, gratuitous grandstanding -- typical Bush. North Korea is not merely contemplating building nukes -- they are assembling their arsenal as we speak. The debate over whether to talk with China et al present or not is specious and also self-indulgent. It makes no difference if they are there or not -- we made the threat. Perhaps Bush should show a little more polish and international savvy in his speeches and a little less carelessness -- many, many lives are at stake, as well as the national security of the United States of America -- I care about that.
