Guess there is good unilateralism and bad unilateralism.

One of the things North Korea would like is an American pullout of Korea. I guess South Korea doesn't need to be a part of talks between North Korea and the US on this. And Japan doesn't need to be involved even though what happens in Korea affects Japanese security. Ditto China.

The important thing is that Bush publicly used the word evil in reference to North Korea. This can be seized on by anti-Bush folks as a "threat" which caused the whole problem. Never mind that NK had been violating the 1994 agreement for at least five years before it came out and admitted it.
