How can they get out of admitting they made it up?

To me it's a very minor point. Yes, HMG took a 10 yr old report off the internet, doctored it, and spread it to the British public as the "latest and most accurate" intelligence. I heard Tony Blair himself say the 45 minutes phrase, putting on his best and most serious pious face. The Government is splitting some fine hairs about what was and was not said. Compared to most media stories, the BBC reported that story very accurately imo.

OTOH The BBC has finally admitted HMG's accusations as accurate. This is a big step down by the BBC, and because they have PO's the big wigs at HMG I expect there will be several rounds of resignations.

It's been a bitter fight and there will be more coming out I think. It's probably finnished Tony Blairs career, no matter how good he really is. It was a step to far relying on the general publics gullibility imho. Opponents will use it as ready ammunition in the next election.

Its maybe an opportunity for the Tories to revive a bit -g-

/edit. I agree with Nadine though. The BBC is an incredibly biased news source on the Middle East. Completely over run with a particular brand of left wing politics.
