On Vietnam our conclusions are mostly the same. We let the commie impremature determine our policy. If vietnam started after sino-soviet split, US policy would have sought to divide and conquer by supporting a more ambivalent policy.
However Vietnam experience has little to do with iraq. And this supposed guerilla war that even some of our generals apparently buy into is something that exists without very much popular support. If we could ever get saddam or prove his demise, many iraqis would support us and we would start getting better intel on where these bad guys are. Mike
PS I dont claim to know how this will all turn out. You may be right about quags. But wont you at least meet me half way and admit that if guerrilla activities controlled and wmds found and some progress on the political rep govt front, the iraq war may not have been in vain.
