lbs,
Hi there!
I just got into QCOM not long ago, still haven't gone beyond the first half of my learning curve. Thus you need to bear in mind that whatever I can offer here are highly unpolished.
1. IMO, QCOM is in the midst of transition from a not-completely-evolved story stock to a real growth stock. Some folks in Wall Street obviously know this, yet they have their realities to deal with. I came into this stock with full awareness of this uncertainty, thus perfectly willing to subsidize my investment here with earnings from the granddaddy high techs such as Intel and MSFT.
2. I think Globastar will have a greater likelihood of succeeding than Iridium Satellite. Among many reasons (which qdog and friends will address later, I hope), Iridium is guilty by association: I simply have no faith in MOT as a developer and marketer of truly novel, enabling technology.
3. Among the various issues QCOM faces, "execution" is clearly one of them. While it is always difficult for outsiders to comment/critize soft issues such as leadership, I do feel that, at this stage of game, QCOM would benefit from a senior management team whose collective profile is more pragmatic than the one associated with the founding of the company.
The above is very peripheral and conceptual. Perhaps it will serve as an opener for a more meaningful dialogue.
Take care, Ibexx |
