Great theory... to bad it hasn't worked in practice.

The 'beast' isn't being starved - they just print all the fiat money they want to and go on running deficits. This will happen under foreigners choose to stop buying our bonds and the dollar collapses.

The size of government, and it's intrusiveness, has not been restrained.

The portion of our economy represented by government declines some during Reagan's 8 years (by a modest amount... totally swamped by the massive deficit increases)... was essentially flat during the Bush I years (but the deficit continued to get worse)... and declined modestly during Clinton's 8 years (but more than under Reagan)... but spending and the size of government is soaring under Bush II.

Discressionary spending is 50% higher than Clinton posted.
