Calls are flying off the shelf today for Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE: APC - News), with more than 10,400 contracts changing hands. Open interest at this strike currently sits at zero, which means a large chunk of today's volume should translate into new positions by tomorrow. This type of activity is nothing new for the stock. Its Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR) has trended sharply lower in recent weeks. In fact, the current reading of 0.42 is lower than 96 percent of those from the past year. Short interest is also extremely low at 3.28 million shares, and Wall Street coverage is leaning toward the "optimistic" camp. Of the 28 analysts covering the shares, 11 rate them a "hold" and 13 rate them a "buy."
