Dan3:

One should invest in AMD now if one believes:

1) that the AMD64 will be faster in 32-bit mode than any comparable 32-bit processor.
2) that Opteron is readily scaleable thereby capable of maintaining its performance edge for the foreseeable future.

DM does not have a history of hyperbolizing so one might be confident about Opteron's 32-bit perfornmance advantage and Opteron's scalability based upon DM's recent assertions:

A. In 2004, we expect to be able to ship millions of AMD Athlon 64 processors – and we expect adoption of 64-bit processors to accelerate quickly as the market responds to the new standards of performance.

B. By scheduling AMD's first shipments of upcoming AMD Athlon 64 and AMD Opteron processors in 2003, we are building the foundation for an orderly, simplified transition to market-specific 64-bit computing … before the unstoppable force of increasing memory and data processing demands meets the immoveable object of 32-bit architecture limits.

AMD, with its Opteron foundation now being laid, has entered a new era, an era most likely characterized by explosive revenue growth certainly in FY04, perhaps even beginning as early as q3 FY03!!!
