It doesn't take long to get into murky territory when discussing Freemasonry or the Knights Templar. In books published by their own publishing houses, Masons claim a lineage back to Solomon, and of course they lay a claim to the Templars as well. I think most of that is wishful thinking and fanciful myth-making. And no, I haven't seen references to goddess worship in their books, but there is overlap with these esoteric societies, and there are groups who are seeking a revival...
I recently read The DaVinci Code. A little comic booky, but a fun read. The Opus Dei monk was an especially comic booky character.
I'm a little familiar with the Knights Templar. I have a nice collection of books about them and related topics. I wish I could refer to them now, but they are in a storage unit about 1300 miles from here.
Foucault's Pendulum was excellent! It was a response to Holy Blood, Holy Grail, which caused such a sensation in the 80s. As a semiotician, (or whatever you call experts in semiotics) Eco was well equipped to respond, but I think he succeeded only in muddying the waters even more. Just like Holy Blood, Holy Grail, Foucault's Pendulum raised more questions than it answered.
I would appreciate it if you could keep your little friends from jumping in on this subject
