Hi michael97123; Re: "And with iraq you could talk or fight too. IMO we fought to prevent the fanaticals islamists and the crazy quilt regimes from iraq to saudi arabia from getting control of nukes."

Problem is that now that we are thoroughly tied down in Iraq, we have no troops left over to kick over any other regimes. I wouldn't doubt that Iran is working on nukes. But they're 3x bigger than Iraq, and since we already shot our wad in Iraq, Iran knows that there is not a damn thing they could do that would result in us invading them. Not a damn thing.

Before we got ourselves stuck in Iraq, at least the Islamic Fundies could imagine that we were able to occupy and reform a large country in the Middle East. What Bush has done now is to prove that we are a paper tiger. While a lot of people knew this in advance, it was not as well known as it is now.

Before Iraq, we could convince Saddam Hussein to destroy his WMDs and allow inspectors into the country. Now our threats fall on deaf ears. Note that North Korea did not begin processing plutonium until after it became clear that Bush overreached in Iraq.

I doubt that if Iraq came up again that our threats would be listened to. No way that Congress would jump on board for another quagmire. No way the Brits or Australians would sign up.

Bush is toothless now.
