U.S. Troops Say Seize Saddam Allies in Iraq - 22 July 2003
abcnews.go.com

MOSUL, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. soldiers stormed a house in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Tuesday, killing one Iraqi and seizing key allies of Saddam Hussein who were hiding inside, a U.S. officer at the scene said.

"Individuals of very high interest to the coalition forces were hiding out in the building," Lieutenant Colonel William Bishop of the 101st Airborne Division told Reuters.

Local residents said there had been rumors that Saddam's sons Qusay and Uday had been hiding in the city.

"This morning we went to the building and surrounded it, and detained several of these high-interest personalities," Bishop said.

Witnesses said U.S. soldiers were fired at by people inside the house as they approached. The Americans called in helicopters to subdue the resistance before storming the house.

Bishop said one Iraqi had been killed and five wounded in the battle.

The house, a large villa, was badly damaged, and its roof caved in after it was apparently hit by a missile.....
