I have never faulted Carter on this - he is a true believer and a genuinely nice man - terrible President, but a good guy. This type can always get hoodwinked by truly evil people, because they refuse to believe that real evil exists.

On reflection, and some serious reading, Clinton was faced with the same two choices Bush has and he chose (with plenty of pressure inside the party and from our allies) to negotiate and appease - with the thought that NK would go the way of China and evolve. They had just 'elevated' a new leader - things looked hopeful. In hindsight the deal looks bad - but I am not sure if FADG existed then if I would have been against it at the time.

GST is correct - we now have the same two choices. However the last 9 years have taught us that they will not evolve and that if anything Kim is worse than his father.

As a result I believe that war is inevitable and that the discussions are mere smokescreens to hide planning and deployment. The USS Reagan is in service and moved to the Pacific Fleet months ahead of schedule - South Korean protests are used as an excuse to move our troops out of artillery range - not coincidences.

If we don't take out North Korea - Japan will be forced to - and East Asia will explode.

There are no good choices here.
