What you describe with Ameritrade is not buying directly on the Canadian market, but through the NASDAQ bulletin board on which you will likely pay at least a penny more per share than you would directly on the Canadian exchange (and receive at least a penny per share less when you sell). In a higher priced stock like SUF-T/SOARF this is a small percentage, but for penny stocks it is a more significant penalty. By contrast, Penntrade allows you to trade directly on the Canadian exchanges.
